My Story
I was born in Jordan and moved to the UK during my childhood. Six years later, My family moved back to Jordan for my teenage years. During my secondary school years in government schools, my greatest ambition, given the resources I had, was to study medicine or engineering (an ambition common in many Arab societies then). Fortunately, my scores in the state examinations were good, but not good enough. In my last year of secondary school, the first boarding school in the Middle East, King’s Academy, opened up in Jordan.
While I was too old to apply to King's, the concept of even greater ambitions opened up to me. With the help of the then-Headmaster, Dr. Eric Widmer, I applied to Deerfield Academy in the USA, and received a full scholarship from His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. I discovered later that I was the first Jordanian to attend Deerfield after His Majesty graduated in the 80s. During my year at Deerfield, I applied to various universities in the US to be accepted into Williams College, MA. I studied Political Science, International Relations, while at Williams, but always remembered my promise to His Majesty.
From this extraordinary opportunity, I had promised His Majesty that I would come back and give back the same opportunity I had received to others. True to my promise, I began working in the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid at King’s Academy and found that this promise gave me my purpose; changing students’ lives and educating them.
After hearing of another boarding school opening for the first time in Egypt, I knew I had to expand the range of my purpose further and be a part of the founding team of Manara School. So, after 10 years at King’s Academy, I left for Egypt with my wife and kids, to be part of yet another fulfilling mission.
Now as I explore my purpose further, I'm on the lookout for opportunities to further my impact and share my expertise and story to the world.
